Myanmar, Burma---Robert Easson and his family have launched “GoFundMe” campaign to raise funds to avoid being imprisoned indefinitely Myanmar for trying to help educate and upskill young people.
This
campaign commenced on February 23rd, 2020 and has so far attracted 13
donors. The family is hoping to raise US$180,000 (AU$280,000 / £145,000) which
will allow them to settle claims and actions instigated by the labour office
and remove the block on Robert leaving the country.
When reforms
were announced in the Myanmar insurance sector, Robert and his family took the
fateful decision to move to Myanmar to fulfil a dream of helping to educate young people in Burma about the
ethics and professionalism in this industry.
In order to
upskill and teach young Myanmar who are beginning their careers professionalism,
integrity and trust in this recently liberalized sector, Robert was encouraged to established an insurance institute, which was then subsequently blocked by a
powerful group of cronie connected individuals purely due to jealousy and for political reasons.
Robert and
his wife Cindy invested their life savings and borrowed heavily to fulfil this
dream of educating Myanmar people and building capacity, but have now been
forced to take their 2 children (Mickey (6) and Elly (3) out of school. There
are unfortunately no free schools for expatriates in Burma.
Robert is
more worried about his wife and kids as they are obviously not Myanmar Citizens.
Cindy will be left with no ability to look after herself and the children if
Robert is successfully prosecuted by people who are politically motivated to
destroy his good reputation. These
people are well aware that Robert does not have the funds to hire lawyers to defend himself in court and so will lose the case. Even though this is a civil matter, there are
no debtors jails in Myanmar, so he will be incarcerated indefinitely in the
country’s notorious and overcrowded maximum security Insein jail a long with
drug dealers, murders and rapists.
“These powerful people and the labour office
have prevented me from getting any kind of employment since February 2019 and
with no support of any kind, my funds are exhausted and we are now destitute”,
says Robert Easson. “My family has suffered immensely I need to
settle all these outstanding issues so we can leave this country and rebuild our lives. Please help us to get the funds together so that we can pay these
debts and return home. Cindy and I will be so grateful for your help and we
will repay your kindness by pledging to remember you all in our nightly prayers
as well as one day paying the kindness you have shown us forward.”

About:
Robert Easson is half British
half Myanmar (Burma). He was born in Rangoon and moved to Britain when he was 9
years old. He returned permanently to Burma in September 2016 to educate young
Myanmar people on how to sell insurance ethically and to ensure that they got
all the tools they needed to succeed in this brand new industry. He started an institute which
has now been forced to close down and his family is suffering because Robert
has been prevented from finding employment by very powerful cronie connected
individuals. Their only option has been to start this campaign which if
successful, will allow them to return home.
